Jodie L. Hurwitz, MD, FHRS
President

Dr. Hurwitz is the Director of Electrophysiology at North Texas Heart Center and the Director of the Electrophysiology Lab at Medical City Heart and Spine Hospital in Dallas. She is President of the North Texas Electrophysiology Society and has been involved in multiple Heart Rhythm Society activities, including the Women’s Leadership Initiative, serving as the HRS representative for the American Medical Association, and chairing the Membership Committee. She is also a member with the ABIM CCEP writing committee.

She received her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of New York and her Fellowship in Cardiology and Electrophysiology at Duke University Medical Center. Dr. Hurwitz is published widely and participates extensively in clinical and device trials, and has been named several times to the Best Doctors in Dallas and Texas Super Doctors.

Andrew D. Krahn, MD, FHRS
Immediate Past-President

Dr. Krahn is Head of the Division of Cardiology and Professor of Medicine at the University of British Columbia. He is the  Immediate Past President of the Heart Rhythm Society, and Past President of the Canadian Cardiovascular Society. He has published over 400 papers in peer-reviewed journals, including Circulation, JAMA and the New England Journal of Medicine. He sits on the Editorial Board of Heart Rhythm, the Canadian Journal of Cardiology and the Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology. His current research interests include investigation of genetic causes of arrhythmias, causes of loss of consciousness and implantable arrhythmia device monitoring. His major clinical interest is in inherited heart rhythm clinic and arrhythmia device management. He received his MD from the University of Manitoba.

 

Kenneth A. Ellenbogen, MD, FHRS
President-Elect

A native of New York, Dr. Ellenbogen’s formal education began at Princeton University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in Biology. He earned his M.D. from Johns Hopkins University, where he also did his internship and residency training in Internal Medicine. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Societies. He did his Cardiology fellowship training at Duke University Medical Center. A member of the MCV Campus faculty since 1986, Dr. Ellenbogen achieved the rank of full Professor of Medicine (Cardiology) in 1997, was Vice-Chair of Cardiology from 2003 – 2009, and Chair of Cardiology from 2010-2021. He also serves as Director of Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing at VCU’s MCV Campus and holds the Kimmerling Chair of Cardiology.

Dr. Ellenbogen has served as a Chair of the Heart Rhythm Society Education Committee and as a member of the Board of Trustees. He received the Distinguished Teacher Award in May 2015 and has participated in the Board Review Course as faculty, Chair or Co-Chair for 16 years.

He has published more than 350 original scientific reports and over 200 book chapters, editorials and review articles. Dr. Ellenbogen is the editor or co-editor of five textbooks of cardiac electrophysiology and pacing. He has presented over 300 abstracts at major scientific meetings. Dr. Ellenbogen has served on the editorial boards of multiple journals, including Heart Rhythm. Dr. Ellenbogen has been an invited lecturer and speaker all over the world and has given over 450 talks at major national meetings.

Patricia Blake, FASAE, CAE 
Chief Executive Officer

As Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Blake leads the 7,000+ member professional society in its goal to end death and suffering due to heart rhythm disorders. Ms. Blake joined HRS in March 2019 and is privileged to continue to expand HRS’ position as the premier global resource for information on heart arrhythmias, which serve over 35,000 constituents across six countries.

Patricia Blake began her association career as a meeting planner for the Society of Manufacturing Engineers in Dearborn, Michigan. She relocated to Minneapolis to join the American Academy of Neurology where she ultimately served as the Deputy Executive Director. Pat and her family relocated again to Chicago to serve as the Executive Director for the Emergency Nurses Association. In 2002, she was named Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) a 15,000 member professional medical association.

Throughout her career, Pat’s deep understanding of organizational culture and small group dynamics has enabled her to work effectively with member leaders and staff to transform, build and grow each organization she has served. Her strong believe in collaboration and patient focus has served as a cornerstone of her leadership. Ms. Blake served as a member of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) Business Services Board, was named an ASAE Fellow in 2013, served as a Director on the ASAE Board, and is currently the ASAE Foundation Chair and the Chair-elect of ASAE. Ms. Blake is a former Chair and an active member of the Key Professional Associations Committee (KPAC). She is a past Board member and Chair of the Association Forum of Chicagoland and the 2014-15 Shapiro Award recipient.
